DCL 1.6 Meditation | Yours is the Kingdom, the Power and the Glory
A message by John Ortberg.
Human beings are kingdom builders. We look for ways to control our agenda, money, comfort, lifestyle, career, and security in hopes of building our own self-sustaining empire. Whether we are successful at creating this or not, the pursuit of such an earthly kingdom is endless and unsatisfying. Jesus teaches us to pray, “Your kingdom, Your power, Your glory,” at the end of the Lord’s Prayer. We were created to live under God’s power. If we invest our efforts into God’s kingdom instead of our own, only then will we receive the strength, wisdom, creativity, and comfort that is fulfilling and eternally significant. In what areas of your life are you building personal kingdoms?
(Try and make space to listen to this session in one sitting.)
ASSESSMENT AND APPLICATION
Yours is the Kingdom….
- Surrender to His Kingdom – John challenged us to give up the folly of pursuing our own agenda. Where perhaps do you need to do this in your own life? Make notes of anything that God brings to mind and surrender them to Him.
- Ask for His power – Where could use some of God’s power right now? Are you facing a challenge, a need regarding a relationship, a burden or fear? Don’t try and carry this alone, ask for His power now.
…and the glory.
- Glorify His name – proclaim His goodness and greatness, this is the most important thing you can do all week. Take some time to do this now. Right down some key thoughts you have about Him and carry these with you throughout the day and review them as you progress through your day, giving Him the glory.
