DCL 3.2 Meditation | Pillar People

A message by John Ortberg.

Before you listen to this session, reflect back on your life and call to mind the people who have been significant to your walk of faith. As you see their faces in your mind’s eye, spend a few moment giving thanks to God for them.

(Try and make space to listen to this session in one sitting)

ASSESSMENT AND APPLICATION

“The construction of the church might just be the hardest thing in the world.”

These were some of the opening words of John Ortberg in this session. He suggests that this is the case, because the construction material is ordinary living people.

Read 1 Peter 2:5.

You are a living stone. You are part of the church that is under construction.

This is an incredible truth. Take some time to consider the implications of this in your own life.

How might your living stone be used by God to be fashioned into a pillar? John suggests that no one can drift to becoming such, but rather that it takes a number of qualities. The first of these is a devotion to living a spiritually authentic life. Consider, are you living the kind of life that you are inviting others to?

Take time to talk with God about this. Ask that He search your heart and reveal anything there that may be displeasing to Him and decide today to deal with it. Take whatever action is necessary.
